Religion and art

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I chose both of these films because I want to know more about them and what the religion means to the art.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The key concepts that I learned is that Islamic art comes from all over the Middle East.   I really like the ivory caskets that came from Spain, that piece looked like it took time and dedication.  The Ardabil carpet from Iran was amazing it had so much detail.  Islamic art was everywhere, from Calligraphy to pottery, carpets, in mosques, to candle holder and more.

In the Hinduism movie they key concepts that I learned is that Hinduism plays a major part in its art.  They have shrines dedicated to different gods. Also they had cave art that would show stories like Krishna holding up a mountain to shelter his people from rain or a man milking a cow.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos relate to the readings by showing you more different forms of Islamic art and Hinduism art.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Both films were good.  You get to see the different types of art associated with both Islam and Hinduism for is Islam it’s just more than Calligraphy. Islamic art is everywhere.  For Hinduism I think art is part of the religion. Hinduism is  polytheism , which is more than one god. So there is much more art.
